Gartner’s survey of the mobile phone market in the first quarter of 2009, released earlier today, reveals interesting trends. As overall market shrunk 9.4 percent annually and average selling prices declined 18 percent, smartphone sales jumped 12.7 percent to hit 36.4 million units.

including Apple, LG, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson, have submitted a Memorandum of Understanding to the European Commission pledging to start making phones that can be charged using a single charger.The Mirco USB charger would be more energy efficient than current mobile chargers and so far this step has been welcomed by all the companies after repeated pressure by the European Commision to lauch a common charger for all the mobile Phones.
